Do you have childhood memories of playing in the woods? As you run through the verdant trees that are glowing with sunlight, you'll see small animals and birds flying around. There was a scent to the warm summer air that you would never get tired of.
Nine-year-old
Danielle is the protagonist of this tale; she finds something in the forest
that she simply must keep. She attempts to stay with her new buddy in spite of
the difficulties, demonstrating that love and friendship have the power to
triumph above all including the scary stuff.
June
Danielle
O'Leary always found June to be a difficult month. Specifically, the first week
of June. June 7th marked
the end of the school year, but for all the restless children at Windsor
Elementary, the week prior appeared to go by as slowly as possible. The
analogue clock's hands were moving so slowly that it appeared as though they
were going backwards.
June 7th
At Last,
Eventually, June 7th arrived.
That
morning, Danielle and her friends arrived at school empty-handed, prepared to
listen to and ignore any lesson their teachers might have had about proper
behaviour during the summer. The weather outside was pleasant and fresh and nine-year-old Danielle had
plans for the rest of her day that involved no maths, reading or social
studies. Danielle was
embarking on an exciting adventure.
Noon
Danielle's
teacher stated, "I'll see you next year," around noon, a few minutes
before the school year officially ended. "You may all start a bit earlier.
I hope you enjoy your summer." She didn't have to tell Dani and her
friends more than once. Dani virtually threw herself into Sheila's mother's car
as she and her best friend Sheila ran outdoors. Dani's mother allowed her
daughter to go home with Sheila that day considering that she had to go to
work. For Dani, the day
had been going perfectly.
