Normally
Dani
wouldn't normally want to visit Hollow Hill. She had never been big on breaking
rules—at least not severe ones—and she had always been a little afraid of the
woods that backed Sheila's house. Almost instantly, the woodland changed from
being bright and green to being gloomy and emerald. In an instant, you were on
another world after you crossed the boundary between trees. Even in the middle
of the day, it was very quiet and gloomy back there. Far too quiet.
Dared
But what could a girl do? Mike had challenged her and Sheila, claiming they were too afraid to travel to Hollow slope, which he described as a "weird hill that comes out of nowhere, like a giant butt." Very mature. Dani said Sheila a few days ago, "I'll bet he hasn't even gone out there." She was aware that Sheila couldn't back down from the challenge, though, based on the expression in her friend's eyes.
The D-Day
D-Day for
Sheila and Dani was June 7.
A chance to disprove Mike. To prove to him that women were capable of being strong, fearless, and climbing the hill. The girls would behave as if Hollow Hill was unimportant once they arrived. When Mike turned it into some sort of major accomplishment, they would act like he was a huge baby. What a nerd. Despite everything, Dani couldn't hide her anxiety as she rode in her mom's Sienna back to Sheila's house.
Windsor,
Maine
While returning to Sheila's place, the remainder of Windsor, Maine seemed to fly by. Windsor was a charming village with an even more charming town square. If you enjoyed New England football bars, seafood, and the Patriots, this was the place to be. Windsor was dubbed a "tourist trap no one knew about" by Dani's father once. Whatever that implied. They had returned to the house at last. While the girls hurried up to Sheila's bedroom, Sheila's mum went inside to prepare lunch, which consisted of PB&J, chips and an apple.
Everything
We Need
As her best friend started talking, Dani threw herself onto Sheila's bed draped in a Justin Bieber blanket. "Okay, so this is the plan," Sheila explained. "Mike's school ended yesterday, so the boys are probably already there." We are going to surprise them. "He believes we won't make it, but he's not correct. I have everything we need." Sheila gestured towards a brown cross-body bag that she had received as a Christmas gift. It was full of water and food.
