Stay Where I Can See You
Technically
speaking, Sheila and Dani weren't really permitted to enter the woods by
themselves. They might remain close to the forest's edge until the mossy
ground, gloomy forests, and green trees obscured their view. Sheila's mother
had a rule: "Stay where I can see you." Naturally, though, the girls
seldom paid attention. Whenever they were caught, they would always try to push
that line and pretend to be innocent. Particularly now that June 7th would signal the start of a
new phase in their outside excursion.
The plan
At Windsor,
the girls came up with their idea during playtime and lunch. Dani and Sheila
devised the ideal scheme to start the last week of classes while swinging on
the swings every day. Since they were nine years old, they believed they were
mature enough to investigate the well-known Hollow Hill. From Sheila's house,
it was a half-mile trek into the forest to the supposedly haunted place.
To make sure they weren't gone
for too long, they would need to bring their bikes.
Sheila's mother
Fortunately, Sheila's mother sat down to watch two, sometimes three, hours of E.R. every day at 1 P.M. Sheila joked that soap operas were her job, even though she didn't have a job. An hour into George Clooney and the gang, Sheila's mother would usually fall sleep. Therefore, the girls would be able to visit Hollow Hill and see what all the excitement was about if they moved as fast as they could.
Mike
Sheila remarked,
"I think we can ride our bikes pretty far. Mike said it's a straight shot
back. Just so you know, he might be there." Sheila's neighbour was
ten-year-old Mike, who was also her nemesis and crush. Though not to that
extent, Dani also liked him. He could be a real jerk at times. Mike had always been a little bit of
a daredevil, and he and his pals got into situations for which Dani's mother
would have permanently grounded her.
